Loren E. 'Pete' Peterson
Loren E. "Pete" Peterson, 86, of Mt. Pleasant died Friday, March 17, 2000, at 1 a.m. at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit.
The funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. Burial was in the North Hill Cemetery of Wayland. Memorials have been established to the Park Place Activity Fund and the Oakland Mills Church.
Mr. Peterson was born Oct. 6, 1913, in Oakland Mills, the son of John and Ruth Dusenberry Peterson. He married Margurite McClure on June 4, 1932. He married Minnie F. Rich on March 19, 1949, in Washington. He received his education at Oakland Mills School. He lived most of his married life in Wayland. He was a heavy equipment operator. He worked for Jack Schroder of New London for several years. For the last ten years prior to his retirement, he was employed by Fruin-Collin Corporation in Ft. Madison. He loved to work on cars in his garage and was known for his avid storytelling.
Survivors include his wife of Mt. Pleasant; one son, Rick Peterson of Shell Lake, Wis.; five daughters, Cheryl Hembry of Emerson, Linda Metcalf of Oakville, Gail Denning and Carol Stevenson, both of Des Moines, and Jan Heinz of Burlington; one sister, Juanita Jump of Yampa, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a son, Alden Peterson; an infant daughter; and one brother, Hugh Peterson.
