Lorene Dietrick

      Lorene Dietrick, 93, passed away Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at the Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

      She was born Oct. 1, 1907, in Jackson Township near Salem, Iowa, the daughter of Francis Joseph and Ella May Wery Shumaker. She graduated from Salem High School in 1926 and attended Gem City Business School in Quincy, Illinois.

      Lorene was united in marriage to Charles D. Dietrick on November 26, 1929, in Fairfield, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1981. Lorene has lived in Mt. Pleasant all of her married life. She was a homemaker and worked at the Mt. Pleasant school cafeteria for six years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women?s Association. Lorene enjoyed crocheting and participating in coffee and card clubs.

      Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sherry Dietrick of Mt. Pleasant, one granddaughter, Julie Dietrick of Tampa, Florida, one grandson, Jeff Dietrick of Salem, Iowa, and one great-granddaughter, Carly Dietrick.

      Lorene was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Iliff Shumaker.

      Open visitation was from 12 noon until 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. There will be no family visitation. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Douglas Hall officiating. Burial was in the Green Mound Cemetery west of Trenton.

      Memorials have been established to the First Presbyterian Church in her memory.
