Lorraine Geary
Lorraine Estella Geary, 92, of the Mapleleaf Healthcare Center, formerly of Mt. Union, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at the Henry County Health Center.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield with the Rev. Beth Briggs officiating. Burial will be in the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday at the Honts Funeral Home, where the family will meet with friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. A memorial has been established for the Mt. Union United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Geary was born Feb. 10, 1907, in Winfield, the daughter of Irvin and Ida Adams Gruver. She married Ralph Geary on April 13, 1932. She grew up in Winfield and lived in Mt. Union for many years. She was a postal clerk for the Mt. Union Post Office and was the head cook for the Mt. Union School. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, the Winfield American Legion Auxillary #5143, and was a member of the Mt. Union United Methodist Church. After retirement, she lived in New London and Mt. Pleasant.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Cox of New London and Wally Geary of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Colleen Geary and Judy Krieger, both of Ottumwa; one sister, Crystal Davis of Illinois; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one stepson, Jack Geary; one granddaughter, Shelly Cardin; one grandson, Sean Geary; two brothers, Floyd and Clifford Gruver; four sisters, Winnie Kramer, Hazel DeYarman, Carrie Glider, and Tressie Gruver.
