Louie Bloomquist, age 85 of Fairfield, passed away Thursday, Dec. 21, 2022, at the Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Behner Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow the visitation starting at 2:00 p.m., with Masonic service during the service and Pastor Frosty VanVoorst officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at Wright Cemetery.
A memorial may be made to Noah’s Arc or to Donor’s Choice and mailed to Terry Bloomquist, 9315 Deer Ridge Drive, Cedar Rapids, IA 52411.
Louie was born March 17, 1937, to Bert Boyd and Laurel (Watson) Bloomquist in Ottumwa, Iowa. He married Saundra Joan Bartholow on June 1, 1958, at the First Christian Church in Fairfield. They were married 54 years before Saundra passed away on Nov. 7, 2012.
After graduating from Ottumwa High School, he joined the Air Force. Louie loved farming. He also worked at Philco Dexter, managed different NAPA Stores and was co-owner of Speed Sity Performance Speed Shop. Louie loved working on cars and stock cars. Some of his other interests were watching Gunsmoke, old Westerns and following Iowa Hawkeye sports. Louie received much joy in listening about his great-grandkids’ sporting activities. He attended the First Christian Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. His dogs were his best friend.
Lou will be missed by his two children, Terry (Ellen) Bloomquist of Cedar Rapids and Randy Bloomquist of Linwood, Nebraska; 9 grandchildren: Mitch (Regan) Bloomquist, Stevee Bloomquist, Lindsey Bloomquist, Travis (Katie) Bloomquist, Sarai Bloomquist, Emily Bloomquist, Kevin (Kristan) Harris, Nathan (Courtney) Harris and Nicolas Bloomquist; and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Laurel Bloomquist; his wife, Saundra; son, Robert Bloomquist; daughter, Traci Lott; and daughter-in-law, Theresa.
