Lowell Cheney Sr.
WATERLOO ? Lowell W. Cheney Sr., 89, of Millersburg and formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, in the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.
Visitation was held from 3 to 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 24, at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel in Waterloo. Full military honors were conducted at 3 p.m., Monday at the funeral chapel, by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, Waterloo AMVETS Post 19, and the Iowa Army Honor Detail. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Mr. Cheney was born Aug. 9, 1927, in Millersburg, the son of Wilbur G. and Lola (Back) Cheney. He married Ronda Schults in Waterloo. The couple later divorced.
He worked as a truck driver for Standard Forwarding in Waterloo, retiring in 1990. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, American Legion Becker Chapman Post 138, and the Waterloo Eagles Club.
Surviving are two sons, Lowell Cheney Jr. of Waterloo, and Glen (Cheney) Crider of Fort Wayne, Indiana; four daughters, Stephanie Cheney of Waterloo, Carrie Jo Vela of Leesburg, Indiana, Louise Ferry of Sale Creek, Tennessee, and Lynette Heck of Fort Wayne, Indiana; one stepson, James Hurley of Waterloo; one stepdaughter, Brenda Hurley of Waterloo; two grandsons; one sister, Kathleen Cheney of Tolono, Illinois; and one brother, Merrill Cheney and wife Sue of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Helen Rug.
