Lucas Owen Vittetoe, five-month-old son of Jeremy and Katee (Keller) Vittetoe, passed away Friday, May 20, 2022, at the Washington County Hospital. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 26, at St. James Catholic Church in Washington, Iowa, with Father Bernie Weir officiating. General calling hours will begin 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church, where a prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. A general memorial has been established. Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Lucas was born Dec. 18, 2021, at Mercy Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Jeremy and Katee (Keller) Vittetoe. Lucas was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
The name Lucas means "light" and that is what he was to his family and anyone who he met. Lucas greeted everyone he saw with a big wiggly smile that would warm anyone's heart. We know that God placed him on earth with us to teach us how to enjoy life. We know Lucas's big smile is lighting up heaven and will continue to shine down on us. Lucas was the center of attention in his house, his older siblings loved and cared for him any moment they could.
He is survived by his parents, Jeremy and Katee Vittetoe; sister, Caroline; and two brothers, William and Theo; paternal grandparents, Jerry and Deb Vittetoe of Washington, Iowa; maternal grandfather, Daryl Keller of Wapello, Iowa; uncle, Jordan Vittetoe and his wife Rebecca and their children, Grant and Madison of Washington, Iowa; aunt, Holly Schmitz and husband Alex of Fairbank, Iowa; uncle, Richard Keller of Wapello, Iowa; paternal great-grandparents, Howard and Shirly Bohr of Wellman, Iowa; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Those welcoming Lucas into his heavenly home are his great- grandparents, Alvin and Jeanette Vittetoe; great-grandparents, Malcolm and Dixie Keller; and great-uncle, Doug Vittetoe.
