Luella Harland

KALONA ? Luella Genevieve ?Lu? Harland, 86, of Kalona, died Friday, March 31, 2017, at her home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond with the Rev. David Brownfield officiating. Burial will follow at the Richmond Public Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, April 3, at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona, where a rosary and prayer service will be held at 3 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Camp Courageous and the Richmond Public Cemetery.

Mrs. Harland was born May 27, 1930, in Richmond, the daughter of Charles M. and Evelyn (Droll) Schnoebelen. She married Ray Harland on May 15, 1951, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond.

She graduated from Kalona High School in 1948. She worked as a medical receptionist in Student Health at the University of Iowa for 25 years. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the National Catholic Society of Foresters Little Flower Court 1181, Richmond AMVETS Post 107 Ladies Auxiliary, and the Residents for a Better Richmond Organization. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, bird watching, playing cards and spending time with friends and family.

Surviving are one daughter, Lori A. Wells and husband David of Graniteville, South Carolina; one son, Lee Harland and wife Betty of Kalona; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Francis Schnoebelen of Unionville, Missouri, and Dale Schnoebelen and wife Connie of Iowa City; one sister, Maxine Hammer and husband Dale of Iowa City; one sister-in-law, Darlene Schnoebelen of Milton, Florida; and two brothers-in-law, Leo Ruth of Ely, and John Geers of Rantoul, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; three brothers, Jerome, Edwin, and Verle Schnoebelen; and two sisters, Alice Geers, and Phyllis Ruth.
