Lula B. “Lou” Leeper, age 83, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Brighton, passed away Friday, February 10, 2023, at the United Presbyterian Home.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at the Brighton Community Church with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke and Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. Calling hours will begin 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the Washington County Fairgrounds, Washington County 4-H or the Washington Betterment Committee. Lou was born December 26, 1939, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Earl Austin and Lilly Mae (Nicholson) Hough. She attended country schools in Washington County and graduated from Washington High School in 1958. Lou was united in marriage to Benjamin T. Leeper on March 10, 1968.
Lou worked for the Washington County Extension service for 15 years retiring in 2002. She previously worked as a Secretary for Dr. Eicher Dental Office, Brighton United Church and Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company.
She was a member of the Brighton United Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of P.E.O., chapter AQ, was a charter member of Fortnightly Business Professional Women, a member of Pythian Sisters and a Master Gardener. Lou was also active in 4-H where she was a 4-H Leader for many years with the Good Luck 4-H Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Terri Seidl and husband, Matthew of Riverside, Iowa; Cheryl Ring and husband, Derek of North Liberty, Iowa; two grandchildren, Abigail Seidl and Austin Seidl; sister, Esther Fickel of Washington, Iowa; brother, Kenneth Hough and wife, Sue of Urbandale, Iowa; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Lou was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Ben Leeper on February 9, 2006.
