Lyle Emerson Whitacre, 83, of Brighton, died early Friday October 7, 2022, at Aspire of Washington. He was born April 27, 1939, in Washington, to Ed and Marjorie Sabina Potratz Whitacre. Lyle grew up in Brighton, attended Pleasant Valley Country School and graduated from Brighton High School in 1957. He attended Bailey Technical School in St. Louis for gasoline and diesel mechanics then worked for Tucker Chevrolet in Washington for several years. Lyle then farmed and drove a truck. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association.

Lyle is survived by his brothers, Gale of Washington and John of Brighton. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, with Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 to 11 A.M. immediately before the funeral. Memorials for Hospice Compassus may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 1544 335th Street, Brighton, IA 52540.
