Mabel I. Speas

      KALONA - Mabel I. Speas, 87, of Kalona, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, following a brief illness.

      Celebration of Life services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona, with the Rev. Lynn Patrick officiating. Burial will be prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. in Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 10, at the funeral home, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established for Kalona First Responders.

      Mrs. Speas was born Nov. 28, 1918, in Sharon Center, to John and Verna (Fleming) Hartsock. She married Lester "Bud" Speas on Oct 12, 1935, in Fairfield.
