Mabel Roth
Mabel Roth, 96, of Wayland, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at the Parkview Home in Wayland.
The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church in Wayland with the Rev. Steve Good officiating. Burial will be in the North Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Wayland Mennonite Church.
Mrs. Roth was born at Noble on April 15, 1904, the daughter of David F. and Lavina Roth Meyer. She married Clarence E. Roth on Dec. 15, 1927, in Wayland. A member of Wayland Mennonite Church, she graduated from Wayland High School and furthered her education during summers at Iowa Wesleyan College and the former Parsons College in Fairfield, becoming a certified teacher. She taught for five years, three in rural schools and two years in the Wayland school. Later in life she worked twelve years as a cook for the WACO Community School District and also worked as a housekeeper for the Parkview Home in Wayland.
Survivors include two sons, Max and Berniece Roth of Wayland and Wilbur and Sharon Roth of Hayes, Kan.; a daughter, Evelyn Garrett of Wayland; two sisters, Miriam Kauffman of Washington and Ruth Anderson of Des Moines; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Russell, three brothers and one sister.
