MABEL A. WOOD Washington, IA Mabel A. Wood, age 90, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Ainsworth, Iowa, died Monday, October 29, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Celebration of life services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Jason Collier officiating. Calling hours will begin 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth, Iowa. A memorial has been established for the Ainsworth Community Church or the Ainsworth Opera House. Online condolences may be sent for Mabel's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com. Mabel was born November 2, 1927, in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Agnes (Wulf) Droll. She graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1946. Mabel was united in marriage to Joseph E. Wood on June 8, 1946, in San Diego, California. Mabel lived in the Ainsworth community all of her adult life. She worked as the Postmaster in Ainsworth for over twenty years. Mabel was a member of the Ainsworth Community Church, Eastern Star, and the County Line Neighborhood Club. She enjoyed gardening and doing craft projects. She is survived by her daughter, Julie Thoemke of Arvada, Colorado; daughter, Nancy Wood of Orlando, Florida; son Michael Wood of Ainsworth, Iowa; four grandchildren: Captain Chad Michael Thoemke and wife Candy Marie of Jacksonville, Florida; Brad William Thoemke and wife Eva Baca Thoemke of Lakewood, Colorado; Joseph Wesley Thoemke and wife Debbie of San Antonio, Texas; and Jennifer Elizabeth Thoemke of Olympia, Washington; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Don Droll; one sister, Marilyn Lewis, one aunt Geraldine Idle as well as many nieces and nephews. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2012; two brothers, Bud Droll and Marvin Droll; and three sisters, Norma Kallous, JoAnn Thom and Marie Ballou.
