Mae June Jennings passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025 at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield following a brief illness. Private services will be held at a later date. The Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Winfield is caring for the family.

Mae June Jennings, known simply as “June” to those who loved her, lived a long and remarkable life of 97 years. She was born on June 7, 1928, in Muscatine County to Peter and Rose Mohnssen. On June 6, 1954, she married Royal D. Jennings, and together they built a life rooted in family, farming, and faith in the Winfield community.

June was a woman of strength and quiet resilience. Life brought its share of joys and sorrows, and she faced them all with a steady determination. She was the kind of person who didn’t ask for much but gave so much of herself—to her family, her home, and her community.

One of June’s defining qualities was her fierce independence. Well into her later years, she took pride in maintaining her own home, caring for herself, and remaining self-sufficient. Even at 97 years old, she was still cooking, tending to her household, and making her own decisions. Her ability to live independently for so long was not only remarkable but also an inspiring reflection of her grit, her work ethic, and her deep sense of dignity. It was, in many ways, a hallmark of her life: to do for herself, to persevere, and to meet each day with quiet courage.

Family was at the center of June’s world. She shared 60 years of marriage with Royal and raised children who, in turn, blessed her with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was proud of her family’s accomplishments, loved hearing about their lives, and found joy in seeing her legacy carried forward through them.

June was preceded in death by her husband Royal; her daughter Annette Scieszinski; her sons Gerald Jennings and Bradley Jennings (in infancy); her sons-in-law Kerry Phillips and Steve Delaney; her parents; and her brother, Jack Mohnssen.

She is survived by daughters Cynthia Phillips and Barbara Delaney; son Alvin Jennings; son-in-law John Scieszinski; daughter-in-law Karen Jennings; 14 grandchildren: Lauren Scieszinski, Susan Cole, Brooke Scieszinski, Caroline Scieszinski, Jacob Phillips, James Phillips, Jonathan Phillips, Anna Larkin, Alex Buck, Eric Buck, Bret Buck, Sam Jennings, Molly Jennings, and Jack Jennings; and nine great-grandchildren.

Her life was long and full, marked by resilience, hard work, and an enduring love for her family. Though she will be deeply missed, the example she set lives on in the lives she touched.
