Maisie A. Green, 92, of Mount Pleasant passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019, at
the Klein Center in West Burlington.
Maisie was born Jan. 4, 1927, in Yarmouth, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Lydia (Knopp) Taeger. She graduated from Yarmouth High School and was a 1949 graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College. She taught school in Yarmouth and was a substitute teacher in Mount Pleasant.
She was united in marriage to James M. Green. To this marriage three children were born, Sally (Richard) Kinney of Mount Pleasant, John (Jung Hee) Green of Northville, Mich., and Sue (James) Shell of Cedar Rapids.
For over five decades, Maisie was a part time employee of Crane's (DeJaynes's) Jewelry Store. A member of First United Methodist Church, she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and was an active UMW member, as well as serving the church on various commissions. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Pi Beta Phi Sorority, Chapter DD of T.T.T., Chapter Original A P.E.O., Fortnightly, San Souci, Tuesday Study Club and Wednesday Club, and for 10 years, she volunteered for the American Cancer Society. In 1990, she was awarded the Iowa Wesleyan College Service award.
Maisie maintained a daily diary since 1941. She enjoyed serving her community and church, spending time with family and friends, as well as attending her grandson's activities.
Maisie is survived by her three children; six grandsons, Matthew Kinney, Mark Kinney, Wesley Green, Quinn Vincent, Samuel Vincent and Connor Vincent; and two great-grandsons, Kayden Kinney and Kendrick Green.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandson, Marcus Vincent; a sister, Lucille Eckey; and a brother, Roy Taeger.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 p.m. immediately following the visitation, with the Rev. David Bracht-Wagner officiating. Private family burial will be held prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in her memory.
The last three years of her life, Maisie resided at the GRMC Klein Unit. Her family is grateful for the excellent, loving care given to her.
