Margaret Alice Cooper, 95, of Fairfield, formerly of Lockridge, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, at Sunnybrook Living Care Center. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1,
at Behner Funeral Home with Pastor Dianne Brokken officiating. After the service, she will be cremated with burial at a later date in Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. Visitation for family and friends will be before the service starting at 10 a.m. until time of service.
Memorials may be made to Lockridge Senior Center or Compassus of Washington County. Cards and memorials may be mailed to Patty Richardson, 3305 W. Jefferson, Fairfield, IA 52556.
Margaret was born March 18, 1924, to John Elbert and Betty Mae (Lawrence) Pennebaker. She married Roger Dale Garrels on Nov. 7, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. He passed away on April 6, 1974. On July 7, 1983, she married Charles Carroll Cooper He passed away April 7, 1998.
Margaret was a cook at the Lockridge School. She enjoyed sitting, drinking her coffee and watching the birds. Margaret also enjoyed traveling with the Heritage Club and trail rides with the Rough Riders Saddle Club.
She will be missed by her children, Gary (Vickie) Garrels of Davis City, Betty Luzadder, Dixie (Craig) Peck, Patty (Bill) Richardson, all of Fairfield, and Gail (Judy) Garrels of Molena, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, Chad Garrels, Gina Prater, Amy (Paul) McGrath, Kelly (Shannon) Nicholson, Brandi Peck, Kim (Jason) Sands, Tim Richardson, Brook (Stephanie) Richardson, Roger Garrels and Justin (Brooke) Garrels; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, John and Betty; her husbands, Roger and Charles; and three brothers, John, Larry and Robert Pennebaker.
