Margaret Lu McKinnon

      Margaret Lu McKinnon, 89, of New London, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

      Visitation will be held starting at noon Friday, Sept. 21 at Elliott Chapel in New London. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at Elliott Chapel.

      Margaret was born Feb. 17, 1918 in New London, the daughter of Phillip and Mary Westerbeck. A graduate of New London High School, she worked at IAAP and the Highway Commission in Jefferson before marrying Hugh McKinnon on Oct. 30, 1943, in New York, N.Y. She later worked occasionally at New London State Bank.

      A 50-year member of New London United Methodist Church, she participated in the Deerwood Golf Club, Mothers Club, Birthday Club and four local bridge clubs. She also enjoyed grandchildren's events and was a big fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.

      She is survived by her daughter, Gina Anderson and her husband Bob of New London; her son, Jeff McKinnon of New London; her sister, Betty Byrum and her husband Carl of Mt. Pleasant; and four grandchildren.

      She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Phyllis and brother Duane.
