Margaret M. Pepper, age 96, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024, at her home with her family by her side. She had been under the care of Hospice of Washington County since August of 2023.
Per Margaret’s request, she has been cremated and will be laid to rest next to her husband Kenny at the Keota Cemetery at a later date. The family is respecting and honoring her wishes of no services. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County. Margaret was born August 13, 1927, in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Delpha (Black) Hahn. She attended school in Washington. Margaret was united in marriage to Darold W. Sparrow in 1946. Following the death of Darold, Margaret married Kenneth H. Pepper on March 19, 1953.
She worked at Guther Photography and was a Certified Nursing Assistant at the M.L. McCreedy Home at the Washington County Hospital. She later worked at Conklin Insurance in Washington.
Family was the focus of Margaret from an early age. Her home was the gathering spot for her siblings, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed camping, attending the Iowa State Fair, and dancing. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their many activities.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Craig) Conklin of Sigourney, Iowa; daughter, Carla Pepper-Kleese of Washington, Iowa; two grandchildren: Chad (Makyla) Pepper of Washington, Iowa; Richelle (Marcus) Slaymaker of Delmar, Iowa; six great-grandchildren: Cashden, Ryen, Ian, Teage of Washington, Iowa, and Layton and Liza of Delmar, Iowa; special family friend Lyn Thomas of Washington, Iowa; four sisters-in-law: Joan Hahn, Gerda Hahn, Gerry Pepper, and Pat Pepper, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Darold Sparrow in 1949; husband, Kenneth Pepper in 2013; four brothers, Charles, Harold, Ronald (Carol) and Kenny (Evelyn) Hahn, and two brothers-in-law, Bill Pepper and Roger Pepper.
