Margaret Wilkens

DAVENPORT ? Margaret ?Jeanne? Wilkens, 92, of Flagstaff, Arizona, died Saturday, March 25, 2017, at home.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 30, at the Runge Mortuary in Davenport. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, March 31, at Runge Mortuary, with burial service to follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Donations may be made to Scott County Humane Society in Davenport, Second Chance Animal Shelter in Flagstaff, or Northern Arizona Healthcare Foundation (Flagstaff Medical Center Nursing Scholarship Fund).

Mrs. Wilkens was born March 23, 1925, in Washington County, the daughter of Alvin Evan and Hazel Alma (Engle) Strum. She married Henry ?Hank? Wilkens on Oct. 8, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

She was educated at New Haven Country School and graduated from West Chester High School in 1943. She later attended and graduated from AIC Business School in Davenport. She was employed by the City of Davenport for 18 years, and retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in March 1993. She enjoyed traveling and visiting many cities during her bowling tournament travels. She did embroidery and counted cross-stitch projects. She loved to bowl, play bingo, work crosswords, and Sudoku puzzles, and play dominoes with her club friends and grandchildren. She loved animals, owning many throughout her lifetime, including her many farm pets. Her husband once said if a stray elephant came around she?d have it for a pet.

Surviving are one son, Brian Wilkens and wife Katy of Flagstaff, Arizona; one stepson, Hal Wayne and wife Sally of Arizona City, Arizona; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her sister and best friend, Colleen Young of Washington; and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hank; and many others too numerous to mention.
