Margery Ann Krantz, 94, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, Sept.5, 2021, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington with Pastor Maureen Howard officiating. The family will be present to receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. A general memorial has been established. Margery was born Dec. 25, 1926, in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Verne Fairfield and Sylvia (Sargent) Hannon. She was married to Harry Kenneth Bloomfield on April 30, 1948. The divorced in August 1977. Margery was united in marriage to Walter William Krantz on June 25, 1988, in Waterloo, Iowa. The couple moved to Washington, Iowa, in August 1997.
Margery was employed for 24 years as an administrative secretary with the Waterloo Community School District, retiring in 1989. Prior to this, she was a secretary with the Hinson Manufacturing Co. in Waterloo.
Margery lived in Columbus, Ohio; Ripon, Wis.; Milwaukee, Wis.; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Alexandria, Va.; College Park, Md.; and Waterloo, Iowa. She attended the University of Maryland and the University of Northern Iowa. Margery served as president of the following organizations: Krieg Parent Teacher Organization, Waterloo Association of Education Secretaries, Iowa Association of Education Secretaries, Waterloo Business and Professional Women, Women of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Waterloo Women's Club. She was also a 25-year member of American Business Women's Association and an American Legion Auxiliary member for over 40 years. Margery was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Iowa, and was the first women to be elected to the church council, where she served as recording secretary and on the Board of Education. She was a board member of the Public Employees Credit Union and a member of the collegiate sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi. After moving to Washington, Iowa, she became a member of the Fortnightly Club and served two years as vice-president. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, crocheting, sewing and fishing,
She is survived by two children, Kenneth Howard Bloomfield and wife Ruta, of Santa Clarita, Calif., and Louise Kay (Bloomfield) Benitez and husband Charlie, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; three stepchildren, Cynthia Nunn of Davenport, Iowa, David Krantz and wife Linda, of Washington, Iowa, and Larry Allar and wife, Sue, of Hawaii; 10 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and two half brothers, Tom Hannon and wife Sandy of Phoenix, Ariz., and John Hannon and wife Mary of Denver, Colo.
Margery was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Ann Wiren Hannon; husband, Walter; one brother, Philip Austin Hannon; two sisters, Sylvia Louise Hannon and Patricia Pieters; two sons, Barry Philip Bloomfield and Kirk Alan Bloomfield, and one stepdaughter, Rita Herman.
