Marie Barton September 20, 1903 - January 17, 2004

Marie Barton, 100, of Mt. Pleasant, died on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

      The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23 at First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, with the Revs. Dave Plooster and Ron Vander Hart officiating. Burial will be in Lambirth Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22 at Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials have been established to Lambirth Cemetery and the Iowa chapter of Muscular Dystrophy.

      Mrs. Barton was born on Sept. 20, 1903, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Fred C. and Melinda Bell Litton McElwee. She married J.F. Barton on Sept. 20, 1922, in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1982. She and her husband farmed in the Round Prairie vicinity until his death. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, music and all her family.

      She is survived by two daughters, Elloise and her husband Richard Moyle, Mrs. Joe (Wanda) Wesely, and a son Wesley and wife Gerry Barton all of Mt. Pleasant, 14 grandchildren: Lori and John Schlatter, Linda Moyle; Bob and Denise, Bill and Karen, Brad and Monica Wesely, Brian Wesely, Becky Wesely; Jim and Diane, Mike and Lyndel Barton, Kathy and Mike McAlister, Rick and Kelly, Phil and Karen Barton, Pete Barton, Melinda and Jeff Sitar. 21 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law Wilma Barton, several nieces and nephews.

      She was proceeded in death by her husband in July 1982, a son-in-law Joe Wesely, two brothers, Everett McElwee, Thomas McElwee, a sister, Mildred Charbonneau, and infant grandson, a great-grandson, eight nephews and two nieces
