Marie Elena Haase, 82, of Ely, IA, beloved mother of two children, passed away February 15, 2025 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, IA; leaving a void her family cannot fill.

Marie was born July 1, 1942 to Harvey and Dorothy VanDrew in Goshen, IN. Marie graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines, IA. She worked for Iowa County as a dispatcher and for the city of Marengo for many years; she enjoyed working with her co-workers very much.

Marie was a devoted mother to two sons, Mark and Brett, who felt her love and support. Marie took special joy in the holidays, especially making cut-out cookies with her boys. She also enjoyed working on her stamp collection and gardening. Marie adopted a feral cat, Gracie, from outside her home after caring for the mother and siblings. She loved playing and cuddling with Gracie very much and Gracie will miss her dearly.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Donn Haase and oldest son, Mark Haase.

Left to cherish her memory are her youngest son, Brett Haase; granddaughter, Marrisa (Scott) Fredrick; grandson, Oliver Frederick and her loving cat companion, Gracie.
