Marilyn Beth Johnston, age 98, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the United Presbyterian Home following a short illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Interment will take place at the Aledo Cemetery in Aledo, Illinois. Memorials have been established for the United Presbyterian Church of Washington or the Washington County Hospital Foundation. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Marilyn was born September 12, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Robert Currie “R.C.” and Bertha (Church) Johnston. After graduating from Aledo High School in 1943, Marilyn attended Monmouth College where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree. She later received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from the University of Colorado School of Nursing in Denver, Colorado. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Mercer County Hospital and at a hospital in the Denver area for many years. Marilyn was proud to be a Missionary Nurse from 1955 – 1982 and a farmer in the Aledo, Illinois area for many years.

She moved to the United Presbyterian Home in September of 1987.

Marilyn was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, was an avid reader and collector and enjoyed hiking and spending time with children. Marilyn enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. She was always smiling and was known for her quick wit.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
