LONE TREE ? Marion Benson Eden, 90, of Hills, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, in the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
His body has been deeded to the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at noon, Sunday, Nov. 20, with a celebration of his life to follow. Both events will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Memorial gifts may be made to the Lone Tree United Presbyterian Church or the Lone Tree Health Care Center.
Mr. Eden was born Nov. 21, 1925, south of Lone Tree. He married Carolyn Fay McLean on Sept. 2, 1958, in Lone Tree.
He graduated from Lone Tree High School in 1944. He and his wife farmed in rural Johnson County until selling the farm and moving to Hills. After moving to Hills, he worked for his son Chris in his real estate business and for Waterfront Hy-Vee until shortly before his death. He was a lifelong Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and Lone Tree Lions fan. He enjoyed an active social life with his wife, Carolyn. They enjoyed traveling, going to ballgames, concerts and dances. They had been members of the Iowa City Moose Lodge 1096 since 1981. They were members of the Lone Tree United Presbyterian Church from the time of its founding in December 1975. He served on the Board of Deacons, the Building and Grounds Committee and as an assistant to the financial secretary. He had also been a member of Abner Lodge 535 of the Masons of Lone Tree since being raised in 1952.
Surviving are three sons, Anthony DeWayne and wife Linmarie, Marion Douglas ?Doug,? and Christopher Todd and wife Trina; six grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Catherine Eden Kirchner, and Juanita Lavon ?Lavon? Eden Kirkpatrick and husband David Kirkpatrick; four sisters-in-law, Irmgard Eden (Mrs. Hubert Eden), Delores Eden (Mrs. Bill Eden), Fran McLean (Mrs. Chuck McLean), and Mary McLean (Mrs. Jack McLean); cousins; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; his parents, Charles and Hilma Eden; four brothers, William Carroll ?Carroll? Eden and wife Elma, Robert Edwin ?Bob? Eden and wife Elaine, William Dale ?Bill? Eden, and Charles Hubert ?Hubert? Eden; one sister, Florence Elizabeth Eden Millsap and husband Kenneth Millsap; one cousin; and four brothers-in-law, Don Kirchner, Chuck McLean, Jack McLean, and James McLean.
