Marion Marshall "Marsh" Koehler, age 102, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington.
A graveside service and interment with military honors will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2021, at the Crawfordsville Cemetery with Pastor Jason Collier officiating. Celebration of life services will be held at a later date. General calling hours without the family present will be held from noon until 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10th, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Marion was born August 15, 1918, on his parents' farm near Ainsworth, Iowa. He was the son of George E. and Mary (McCartney) Koehler. Marsh attended school in Ainsworth. He was united in marriage to Velda "Pat" Stokes on April 18, 1940, in Fairfield, Iowa. The couple had two children, Marsha Ann and Craig Alan. They lived in Davenport with their daughter, Marsha, and both worked at the Rock Island Arsenal prior to Marsh enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served in the South Pacific and aboard the USS Ozark during WWII.
After his discharge, Marsh was employed as a mechanic and shop manager at Tucker's Chevy Auto Dealership in Washington, Iowa. During this time, Craig was born. In 1952, Marsh and his wife purchased and moved to their farm near Crawfordsville and moved to Crawfordsville in 1990. Marsh and his son continued to farm for many years.
Marsh was a longtime member of the Crawfordsville American Legion and faithfully attended the United Church of Crawfordsville. He loved working with his bulldozer on the farm, farm work, watching football and basketball on television, and was an avid reader of newspapers and farm journals.
He is survived by his daughter, Marsha Koehler of Crawfordsville, IA; son, Craig Koehler and wife Rachel of Washington, IA; brother, Bob Koehler and wife Donna of Washington, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
Marsh was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pat, of 71 dedicated years; daughter-in-law, Nancy Koehler; and three brothers, Carl, George T. and Walter John Koehler.
