Mark was born April 29, 1963, in Des Moines, Iowa, the beloved son of Raymond Orion and Mathilda Katherine (Wedemeyer) Kendall. He attended school in Ankeny and graduated from Ankeny High School. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. He attained his pilot's license after college. He was a registered CPA.
He was a successful entrepreneur, visionary and philanthropist, supporting many local businesses and downtown revitalization efforts, including restoring the building he co-owned at 110 West Main Street. He preferred to work behind the scenes, demonstrating through actions his commitment to helping others. He was an organ and tissue donor. A private and humble man who frequently preferred anonymous support, he changed many people's lives with his compassionate guidance. His strong sense of civic service showed up in his service on the City Council, as a volunteer CPA for the Chamber of Commerce, as a volunteer judge for the Ridiculous Day parade for more than five years, as a volunteer at the Chamber of Commerce golf tournament, and in helping to find financial support for the new YMCA and the library. He encouraged others to go into public service, including several in City government now. Mark was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington and supported the church in many ways. He owned and operated Mark Kendall, CPA, P.C. for more than 20 years in Washington and was an investment partner of the bowling alley. He loved to help people through his work, cooking for friends, and he especially enjoyed caring for his garden and newly planted trees and sharing the produce.
He is survived by his mother, Mathilda "Katie" Kendall of Ankeny, Iowa; sister, Katherine Kendall of Ashland, Kentucky; sister, Julie Apolinario of Minnetonka, Minnesota; four nephews, Andy Lyon (married, wife is Shelby), Marcus Apolinario, Kevin Apolinario and Eric Apolinario; and one niece, Claire Rose Lyon.
Mark was preceded in death by his father.
