Marlene Kay Carpenter, 75, of Rubio, died late Wednesday March 29, 2023, at the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield. She was born April 2, 1947, in Richland to Lloyd Earl and Opal Marie Lankford Estes. Marlene grew up in Richland and attended Richland High School. Marlene lived in Illinois: Liverpool, Peoria and Petersburg before returning to Iowa. She was a machine operator at the Caterpillar factory and later worked in a grocery store. She was also a proud member of the Rubio Country Club.

Marlene is survived by her children: Roger Carpenter of Ottumwa, Tracy Starr (Randall) of Richland and Jody Dage (Greg) of Rubio; 6 grandchildren: Scott, Stephanie, Brad, Josh, Jessica, and Haleigh; 2 great grandchildren: Braden and Skarlett; and 2 brothers: Floyd Estes (Pat) of Hanna City, IL, and Richard Augustine (Marilyn) of Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Francis Marie Estes.

Visitation will be held at Gould Funeral Home in Richland Sunday April 2, 2023, 1:30 to 3 P.M. No services are planned and a private family burial will follow later.
