RIVERSIDE ? Martin H. Brophy, 87, of Riverside died Monday, March 20, 2017, in Pioneer Park in Lone Tree.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 24, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Riverside. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors provided by the Riverside VFW Post 6414. Following committal services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the St. Mary?s Parish Center. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday at Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Riverside, with a 3:30 p.m. rosary service. A general memorial has been established at the funeral home.
Mr. Brophy was born June 18, 1929, in Riverside, the son of Leo and Margaret (Walsh) Brophy. He married Patricia Beyer on Sept. 21, 1968, in Burlington.
He was a graduate of St. Mary?s Catholic School in Riverside. He was a veteran, serving in the Army. He was a farmer his entire life. He was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church of Riverside. He enjoyed bowling, gambling, gardening, and playing cards with family and friends. His greatest love was the time he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Pat, of Riverside; four children, Robert Brophy and wife Jan of Wellman, Joe Brophy and wife Beth of West Liberty, Dan Brophy and wife Allie of Australia, and Beth Mellinger and husband Chad of Riverside; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three siblings, Dorothy Burke of Davenport, Rose Pedersen of North Liberty, and Loretta Glowacki and husband Jerry of Bettendorf; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Edward, John, and Francis Brophy; and two sisters, Agnes Murphy, and Theresa Werthmann.
