MARVIN DAY
Mount Pleasant
Marvin Day, 78, of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021, at his home in Tuscan, Ariz.
Marvin was born Dec. 10, 1943, in Concordia, Kan., the son of Franklin and Wilma (Goering) Day. He graduated from Concordia High School in 1961. Marvin was united in marriage to Wanda Ortery on July 27, 1974, in Kirkwood, Ill. The couple lived in Nashville, Tenn., and New London, and have lived in the Mount Pleasant community since 1984. Marvin was a Pizza Hut franchisee, as well as owned and operated the Sirloin Stockade in Mount Pleasant.
Marvin served on the Henry County Hospital Board for over 30 years, the Two Rivers Bank Board, was a member of the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, where he served on many committees, and a former member of the Jaycees. He received an Honorary Doctorate from Iowa Wesleyan College. Marvin volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, coached Little League baseball and served on the youth softball board. He enjoyed Old Threshers and was instrumental in establishing the Carousel. He relished the time he was able to farm with his good friend Steve Heise, and going home to Kansas to farm his family farm with Todd Cyr. Marvin was a very caring, loving, gentle and kind person. He was always willing to lend a hand to those in need and never knew a stranger. Marvin was a devoted family man and husband. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Wanda; five children, Jon (Michaele) Day of Altamont, Kan., Amy Day of Mount Pleasant, Angi (Daniel) Butcher of Mount Pleasant, Dr. Kristopher (Lacey) Day of Issaquah, Wash., and Krystal (Matt) Platt of Mount Pleasant; 22 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marilyn Collins; and a nephew, Rick Collins.
