Mary A. Scarbrough Pleines
Mary A. Scarbrough Pleines, 75, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Newton, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials to the American Cancer Society or to the American Diabetes Association may be left at the funeral home.
Mrs. Pleines was born March 31, 1931, in Grinnell, the daughter of Charles L. and Mary E. Alexander Paul. She married Wilbur B. Scarbrough Jan. 8, 1949, in Arkansas. He died in 1988. She later married George E. L. Pleines May 5, 1990, in Newton.
Mrs. Pleines was a lifelong resident of Newton until moving to Fort Dodge in 1990. She was a graduate of Newton High School.
Mrs. Pleines was a former member of Community Reformed Church in Newton and a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge.
She enjoyed sewing, making quilts, gardening, canning and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Robert A. Scarbrough and wife Ann McCoy of Colfax; two daughters, Linda Davies and husband Lannie of Newton and Jodi E. Plaehn of Marshalltown; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard Paul of Loveland, Colo.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
