Mary Ann Manning, 81, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023, at the New London Specialty Care Center.

Mary was born on June 7, 1942, at Oakville, Iowa the daughter of Burr Grover and Laura Mae (Strawhacker) Hawkins. She graduated from Oakville High School in the class of 1960. Mary was united in marriage to James E. Manning on September 25, 1965, in Nauvoo, Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 21, 2006. She worked for Metromail of Mt. Pleasant and retired after 30 years. In her spare time she enjoyed shopping. Mary was an avid Dodgers, Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeyes fan.

She is survived by her son, Michael Manning of Seattle, Washington, one sister, Babe Kokos, of Joy, Illinois, and her good friend, Ralph Mathews of Mt. Pleasant.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Bud Hawkins and Bill Hawkins, and one sister, Bertha Harvey.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Mary’s family will receive friends from 10 until service time at the Murphy Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Cottonwood Cemetery rural Wayland. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
