Mary Anne Koontz, 75, of Salem, Iowa, died Monday, September 30, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

Born September 18, 1949 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, she was the daughter of Harold and Ilse (Gardner) Christner.

She was the longtime Assistant Manager at Dave’s Super Value until her retirement in November of 2002.

Mary loved spending time with family and friends and game nights. She particularly loved playing jokes and pranks (aka Matilda Koontz) on family with her accomplices (cousins). She enjoyed doing many things; motorcycle riding, dancing, and music and spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Our sincerest thank-you to Cindy & Bob Moser (parents). Without the precious gift (organ donor) from your loved one Lisa Moser, that she so thoughtfully gave, we would not have been able to have the extra 13 years with Mom. She got to meet all 9 of her great-grandbabies and be at many other family and friend events. I don’t know if our gratitude can ever be truly expressed and the importance of organ donation and the gift you gave our family!

She will be solely missed by her two children; Tammy (Roger) Hobbs of Morning Sun, Iowa and Tommy (Gricelda) Koontz of New Castle, Oklahoma, eight grandchildren, Cody Hobbs, Amber Hobbs, Tara Hobbs, Drake Koontz, Samanta Koontz, Carlos Orellana, John Orellana and Ariel Orellana; 11 great-grandchildren, Haydin Duncan, Saylor Fleming, Maverick Fleming, Emma Holgers, Owen Holgers, Rowan Holgers, Adelaide Koontz, Vance Andermann, Josie Andermann, Arizona Orellana and Foxe Orellana; and her companion Jeff Mills of Salem, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 3 at Lunning Chapel from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The graveside funeral service and interment will be held 11:00 p.m. Friday, October 4 at Aspen Grove Cemetery, 2043 Sunnyside, Burlington, Iowa.

A memorial has been established for the University of Madison Lung Transplant Clinic.
