Mary Bradfield, 97, of Bloomfield, Iowa, formerly

of Van Buren County, passed away Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020,

at Bloomfield Care Center.

She was born March 20, 1923, in Keosauqua, Iowa, to James and Lily Warner Syfert. Mary married Donald Bradfield on May 17, 1943, in Stockport, Iowa. Together they raised four children on the farm in Van Buren County.

Mary taught elementary school in Stockport and Milton for 35 years. She was an excellent cook and baker, known for her cinnamon rolls, pies and bread. She had a green thumb and grew beautiful flowers, fruits and vegetables. Mary taught herself to sew and was a wonderful seamstress, often sewing without a pattern. She was a member of the Stockport Christian Church. Most of all, she was ambitious, and was a great mom who made sacrifices for her children. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by two sons, Wayne (Marilyn) Bradfield of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Randy (Becky) Bradfield of Tipton, Iowa; two daughters, Anita (Lauren) Swartz of Union, Ore., and Brenda (Steve) Thomas of Milton, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; brother, Rex (Eloise) Syfert; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lily Syfert; her husband, Donald; and siblings, Kathryn Beer, Martin Syfert, Glen Syfert, Harold Syfert, Ruth Stansberry and Rita Jeffrey.

Due to COVID-19, a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Miller's Chapel Cemetery in rural Keosauqua with Minister Kevin Mote officiating. Online condolences may be directed to www.pedrickfuneralhome.com.
