Mary Catherine Brinning, 87 of Washington, died Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at the United Presbyterian Home.

Funeral Services have been set for Noon, Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Andrew Zuelke officiating. The service will be live-streamed on the Beatty Peterseim Facebook page and YouTube channel. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery. The visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated to the United Presbyterian Home.

Mary was born December 21, 1934, in Burlington, Iowa the daughter of Elisec Francis and Ignacia (Rodriguez) Murguia. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1952 and was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Brinning on February 9, 1957, in Washington.

She was a member of the Washington United Methodist Church. Following High School she was employed with the Burlington Telephone Company and after marriage assisted Richard on the farm. She enjoyed watching movies, planting flowers, gardening, and was an avid baseball and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Survivors include daughter Angela (Bruce) Smith of Des Moines, son Ted (Sandra) Brinning of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law Paula Brinning of Keota; brother Joe (Carol) Murguia of Zwingle, IA; sister Carmon Marguia of Ankeny, IA; eight grandchildren, Matt, Sabonis, Kelsey, Kyle, Christina, Tyler, Austin, and Victoria; three great-grandchildren, Jayden, Beau, and Hayes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard in 1989, son Michael in 2020, brothers, Raymond, Ben, and David; sisters, Esperanza, Dorothy, Aurora and Carmelita.
