Mary Eleanor Mc Pherson, 100, of Fairfield, died Monday, Nov. 12, at the Jefferson County Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Raymond Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Robert Koepcke officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Park Cemetery in West Des Moines.
A memorial has been established in Mary's name to the First Presbyterian Church. Funeral services are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, and online condolences may be sent to the family at www.raymondfuneralhomes.com.
Mary was born June 7, 1907 on a farm north of Des Moines, the daughter of W.G. and Lilia Bishop Mc Pherson.
Having been educated in Johnston and attended Parsons College, she did graduate work at the University of Denver and the University of Iowa. She was active in 4-H; her 4-H demonstrations team placed first at the Iowa State Fair in 1923 earning the team a trip to the National 4-H Conference in Chicago. During her summer vacations as an adult she worked at the 4-H dormitory welcoming girls to the fairgrounds. Mary was a teacher at Johnston and Norwalk prior to moving to Fairfield, where she taught from 1940 until her retirement in 1972.
Mary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Chapter "E" TTT, Chapter HA PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Fairfield Women's Club.
She is survived by a great-niece, Mary Margaret "Meg" Wagner and husband Mike of Coralville, Iowa and two great-great-nephews.
Her parents, brothers W.K. and A.R. Mc Pherson, and a niece and nephew preceded her in death.
