Mary Ellen Dawson, 85 of Washington, died Monday, March 17, 2025, at Halcyon House in Washington.

Funeral Services have been set for 10 AM, March 21, 2025, at the Washington United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the Beatty Funeral Home with family present from 5-7 PM. Memorials may be designated to the Washington United Methodist Church, Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund or the Washington Music Boosters.

Mary was born on October 18, 1939, in Birmingham, IA, the daughter of Floyd A. and Elizabeth (Parsons) DuVall. She graduated from Davenport High School and was united in marriage to John A. Dawson, June 23, 1963, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Davenport.

Mary was a rural mail carrier from 1974 to 1999. She was a faithful member of the Washington United Methodist Church, BPW, Shirts and Skirts Square Dance Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Fort Nightly. She enjoyed quilting, music, family and was a communion steward for many years.

Survivors include her daughter Sue Ellen Hegstrom of Gaithersburg, MD; grandchildren, Cameron Kleinschmidt, Courtney (Patrick) Kleinschmidt-Christian of Oskaloosa, IA and Chloe Kleinschmidt (Precious Paye) of Washington and sister Martha E. Wood of Edgington, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, daughter Ruth Ann and brother Samuel.
