Mary Ellen Hunsaker, age 79, of Washington, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital following a decline in health for the last year.

Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Fellowship will follow at 2344 265th Street, Washington, Iowa. Mary E. Luckenbill was born on April 16, 1946, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Dorothy (Masson) Luckenbill. She attended school in Washington, graduating from high school in 1964. Mary Ellen married James Allen Hunsaker III on December 10, 1993, in Washington, Iowa. She was previously married to Timothy Horak.

Mary was a stay-at-home mom, and the owner and operator of West Side Floral. Together, Mary and Jim owned and operated Hunsaker Hometown Realty and Furniture Store of Washington and Fairfield until her retirement.

She is survived by son Todd (Julia) Horak of New Lenox, Illinois; son, Joel “CJ” (Michelle Carey) Horak of Crawfordsville, Iowa; daughter, Holly (Craig) Jones of Washington, Iowa; son, Patrick (Laura) Horak of Quincy, Illinois; daughter, Theresa (Ron) Dubois of River Forest, Illinois; son Jamie (Melanie) Hunsaker of Queen Creek, Arizona; son, James Allen Hunsaker IV of Califon, New Jersey; daughter, Maegan (Michael) Burris of Litchfield Park, Arizona; 27 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Meredith Luckenbill of Golden, Colorado.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim, in 2023; daughter, Suzanne Horak; son, Scott Allen; sister, Cherry Brinning; brother, Chuck Luckenbill; and brother-in-law, Robert Brinning.
