RICHLAND ? Mary Margaret Hoekstra, 85, of Wilton, died Monday, June 15, 2015, in Wilton Retirement Community in Wilton.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, June 18, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Wilton. Mass of the Christian burial will be at 6 p.m., followed by a light luncheon in the church hall.
Additional visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, June 19, at Gould Funeral Home in Richland. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. at the Friends Cemetery in Richland. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Mary?s Church Building Fund or Iowa City Hospice.
Mrs. Hoekstra was born Sept. 14, 1929, in Richland, the daughter of Richard and Margaret (Reed) Horras. She married Verne Hoekstra on Oct. 1, 1950, in East Pleasant Plain.
She graduated from Richland High School in 1947 and attended air traffic control school. She and her husband moved to Wilton in 1965. She raised her family and worked as a teachers aide, and retired from Louis Rich in West Liberty in 1991. She was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Wilton, and of a local investment club. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of numerous card clubs. After retirement she volunteered as a teachers assistant at the Wilton Elementary School. Above all, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Surviving are one daughter, Elizabeth Brecht and husband Richard of Clive; two sons, Michael Hoekstra and wife Connie of Wilton, and Christopher Hoekstra and wife Paula of Wilton; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Millane and husband Joe of Fairfield, and Carol Greene and husband Dick of Williamsport, Pa.; and one brother, Richard Horras and wife Karen of Richland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on June 29, 1984; and three brothers, John, Joseph, and Robert Horras.
