Mary Jo Wright, 69, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at her home.

Mary Jo was born on July 15, 1953, at Albia, Iowa, the daughter of Ed and Wilma (Williamson) O’Brien. She was united in marriage to Gary Wright

on April 26, 1980, at Albia.

Mary Jo was an amazing, loving mother, grandmother, stepmother and friend to many people. She had a very loving and caring heart. She enjoyed collecting different kinds of dolls and Precious Moments. Christmas was her favorite holiday in which she loved to bake all kinds of goodies and decorate. Mary Jo was devoted to her faith and was a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant.

She is survived by her husband, Gary of Mt. Pleasant; her children, Daniel Wright of Cedar Rapids and Debbie (Steve) Jewett of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren, Ashton, Tristan, Ethan and Serenity; five stepchildren, Tabitha (Brian) Johnson, Tracy (Michael) Bailey, Gary Wright, Jr., Mary Ann (Travis) Roberts and Michael (Jean) Wright, all of Derby, Kansas; eleven stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild; along with her loving dog, Benji.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents; one brother in infancy, John; and one sister, Dori Ballalatak.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2022, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Father Paul Connolly will officiate. Burial will follow in the Forest Home Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 4 to 7 p.m. that evening. Memorials may be directed to the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in her memory.
