Mary Johnson, 94, of Winfield, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Sunrise Terrace in Winfield. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Newell. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Mary Jane Smith was born on December 30, 1929 in Havelock, IA, the daughter of Peter and Ruth (White) Smith. On October 13, 1946 she was united in marriage to Marvin Johnson in Laurens, Iowa. Mary was the head cook at Newell-Fonda Schools for over 35 years. Mary was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Newell for many years. She was a talented seamstress, sewing clothes for her children and after her retirement she sewed clothes for American Girl dolls. Mary enjoyed craft shows and wintering in Texas. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family.

Mary will be deeply missed by her children, Susan Christiansen of Ashton, Marilee (Delbert) Knerr of Columbia, MO, Marilyn Christiansen of Winfield; grandchildren, Chris (Rachel) Johnson, Jason (Vanessa) Johnson, Tyler (Sue) Johnson, Lynn (Jon) Bellows, Ona (Jeff) Johnson, Ami Steffen, Jared (Sarah) Knerr, Zachary (Jenna) Knerr, Caleb (Kelsie) Knerr, Amanda (Cody) Tennison, Jacob (Stephen) Knerr, Elizabeth (Cole) Scheetz, Grace Knerr and Kelsey (Mitch) Edwards; 29 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren and sister, Louise Olsen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; sons, Steve and William Johnson; sisters, Cora and Margaret; and brothers, Ben and Pete.
