Mary M. Brown

Mary M. Brown, 98, of Mt. Pleasant, died at 2:20 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, at her home.

      The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kiboko I. Kiboko officiating. Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday, Oct. 26, at Weir Funeral Home. There will be no family visitation. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery of Mt. Pleasant. A memorial has been established to the First United Methodist Church.

      Mrs. Brown was born Sept. 4, 1902, at Hazeldale, Ill., the daughter of Jessie D. and Nannie Laymon Finney. She married Dr. Wayne B. Brown on Aug. 25, 1930, at Greenfield, Ind., who preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 1980. After graduating from high school, she attended Methodist Episcopal Hospital nursing school in Indianapolis, Ind., graduating on March 2, 1929. She worked at Methodist Episcopal Hospital where she met her husband. They moved to Mt. Pleasant in the late 1930s and she was a registered nurse at the Mental Health Institute during World War II, retiring in 1968. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant where she was active in the Joy Church Circle and United Methodist Women. She was a 50 year member of Bethlehem Chapter 38 of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Founders Chapter of T.T.T. and the American Legion Auxiliary, and an honorary member of the Fortnightly Club.

      Survivors include a sister, Maude Kite of Sullivan, Ill, a brother-in-law, Verald Brown of Hampton, a nephew and two nieces. She was preceded in death by a sister.
