Mary Lou Mitchell, 87, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020, at Parkview Home in Wayland. A graveside service and interment will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. A general memorial has been established. Mary was born Jan. 4, 1933, in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Suffael) Lukavsky. She attended school in Washington. Mary was united in marriage to Gilbert Mitchell. They later divorced.

Mary was a lifelong resident of Washington County. She worked at the button factory, the Washington County Care Center and in the OB Department at the Washington County Hospital. Mary loved going on walks and drives and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, playing cards and talking to people.

She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Jo Gingerich of Wayland, Iowa; son, Guy Mitchell and wife Diane of Brighton, Iowa; granddaughters, Jennifer Fagen and husband Kirk of Keota, Iowa, and Jamie Kinzenbaw and husband Jeremy of Keota, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Case Fagen and Jace and Jordyn Kinzenbaw; sister, Joan Palmer and husband Tom of Washington, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Darlene, Bernice and Frank; one half brother; and four half sisters.
