Marylou Colson Tripolino, 95, of Waverly, IA and formerly of Cedar Rapids and Marengo, died on April 3, 2025, at the Waverly Health Center.
Marylou was born on March 31, 1930, in Marengo, IA, the daughter of Frances Mildred (Hogan) and Louis Mark Colson. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1948. On September 1, 1951, Marylou was united in marriage to Jack Joseph Tripolino in Denver, CO. Marylou was employed as a secretary for the Pioneer Republican Newspaper in Marengo for 13 years and then worked as a medical secretary in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids for 17 years. She retired in 1995. After over 73 years of marriage, Jack passed away in December of 2023.
Marylou was a faithful and active member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She loved to read and much appreciated the Waverly Public Library and their wonderful staff that treated her so well, especially after Jack’s passing. Marylou was a prolific correspondent and known for sending greeting cards to family and many friends up until her passing. She also enjoyed Christmas carolers and always made sure she had cookies to share.
Marylou is survived by three children, Mike (Judi) Tripolino of Denver, IA, Steve (Gretchen) Tripolino of Cedar Falls, IA and Mary Sue (Bruce) Ervans of Seguin, TX; five grandchildren, Aaron (Annie) Tripolino, Bethany (Jeremiah) Harberts, Sarah (Matt) Moser, Christopher (Jen Metz) Tripolino and Noelle (Chris) Roberts; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents; a sister, Janet Colson; a brother, John F. “Jack” Colson; and their faithful Golden Retriever, Bing.
Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly with Fr. Doug Wathier officiating. Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly, the Waverly Public Library, the American Parkinson’s Association, or a charity of donor’s choice.
