Mason McDowell

MOUNT PLEASANT ? Mason Lucas McDowell, 21, of Mount Pleasant, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, in the emergency room of the Henry County Health Center.

Visitation will be held from noon to 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. His body will be cremated following the visitation. There will be no services at this time. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to the family.

Mr. McDowell was born July 1, 1995, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Kenneth Ray and Tracy Renee (Heckenberg) McDowell.

He was a 2014 graduate of Mount Pleasant Community High School. He worked at ContiTech following graduation, was a forklift driver at Heatilator, drove a Budweiser truck making deliveries throughout southeast Iowa, and most recently was a technician working in the pit at Exxon Mobil. Applying his love of mechanics, he liked to work on small engines, including the engine of his Harley, which he liked to ride. He spent time with his grandfather and was always willing to help out family and friends. He loved to make people laugh and was supportive to those he cared about. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and scrapping metal.

Surviving are his parents, Kenny McDowell and wife Jill of Wayland, and Tracy Hotop and Lonnie Staats of Mount Pleasant; two sisters, Samantha McDowell, and Alli McDowell, both of Mount Pleasant; his paternal grandparents, Bruce and Ethel McDowell of Lockridge; his maternal grandmother, Marla Hitchcock of Mount Pleasant; one niece; two nephews; numerous aunts and uncles; and 10 step-nieces and step-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, David Heckenberg.
