Mason 'Mick' Zane Strawhacker
Mason "Mick" Zane Strawhacker, 83, of New London died Friday, July 16, 2004, at his residence.
The funeral service was today at 10:30 a.m. at Elliott Chapel in New London with the Rev. Larry Griswold officiating. Burial was in Burge Cemetery in New London. A memorial has been established to New London Fire and Rescue.
Mr. Strawhacker was born Oct. 22, 1920 in Oakville, the son of Edward Marshall and Nina Davis Strawhacker. He married Neva Cox on May 20, 1941 in Maryville, Mo. He graduated from Oakville Consolidated High School in 1937 and graduated from Burlington Junior College and Boone Welding School. He worked at Army ammunitions plants in Marion, Ill., Baraboo, Wis. and Middletown. He farmed in Oakville and New London and retired in 1981 from J.I. Case as a fabrication foreman. He attended Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Grove. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael and his wife Shiree Strawhacker of New London and Allan and his wife Wendy Strawhacker of Newark, Del.; five daughters, Diane and her husband Tom Fullerton, Gail and her husband Kevin Bailey, Elaine and her husband Brad Raines, Colleen and her husband Dennis Lamm and Julia and her husband Bob Rappenecker, all of New London; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Max Strawhacker of Clark, Mo.; and a sister, Nadine Alderson of Lubbock, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Forrest and Perry, and an infant sister, Rosalee.
