Max E. Nebel, 89, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully at Glen Oaks Alzheimers Special Care Center on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, at Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, at the Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines. Burial will be in the Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Max was born Sept. 7, 1930, in Wayland, Iowa, the son of Lewis ("Pert") and Anna Marguerite (Edwards) Nebel. He received his education in Wayland and later attended the University of Iowa, where he obtained his Bachelor's degree in advertising journalism in 1954.

He married Marilyn Joan Mecklenburg on April 7, 1958, in Des Moines, where they made their home all their married life and where they raised their family.

For many years Max worked in advertising, sales management and sales promotion for various companies mainly in the insurance and financial fields. Max then owned and operated Iowa Windshield Repair for more than 30 years until his retirement.

Max enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and bingo, playing and inventing various board games as well as writing plays and short stories. He was proud to have been on a winning bean bag baseball team at Beaverdale Estates.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn ; two brothers, Dean and Jerry Nebel; and a son-in-law, Rick Warren.

Max is survived by three children, Cindy (Robert) Warren Hobbs of Johnston, Iowa, Christi Nebel Williams of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Brian (Terrie) Nebel of Ankeny, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Austin Warren (Paige Kleckner), Stephanie Warren, Andrea (Jacob) Kingrey, Ryan Williams, Kaitryn Williams, Max (Kensie) Nebel and Justin Nebel; and four great-grandchildren.
