Max E. Parcel
Max E. Parcel, 79, of 1310 Marsh Ave. in Winfield, formerly of Fremont and Ottumwa died at 9:32 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2000, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.
His body has been cremated. The memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the Rev. George Edgerly of First Pentecostal Assembly of God officiating. The military service will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer of Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson of Post #3 American Legion. A memorial has been established to the Winfield Fire and Rescue.
Mr. Parcel was born Dec. 18, 1920, in Wapello County, the son of Clarence Jesse and Iona Wonderly Parcel. He married Marilyn Alvine on March 31, 1952. He was a resident of Ottumwa before moving to Fremont in 1956 then moving to Winfield in 1991. He was a truck driver for various companies before joining Wausau Homes, and he retired from Pamco in 1982. He served in the Army during WWII and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2237 in Oskaloosa, American Legion Post #643 in Winfield, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #276 in Oskaloosa.
Survivors include his wife; seven daughters, Mary L. Gould of Ottumwa, Claretta Martin of Arizona City, Ariz., Liz Sells of Cheyenne, Wyo., Marchia Parr of Geneseo, Ill., Mari Ward of What Cheer, Kris Kelderman of Kirkville, and Kay Johnson of Littleton, Colo.; two sons, Gary Parcel of Marshalltown and Max "Mick" Parcel of Ft. Worth, Texas; three sisters, Marcene Garmon of Muscatine, Laura Herrick and Carolyn Rollis, both of Spokane, Wash.; a step-mother, Phoebe Parcel of Princeton, Mo.; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Helen Guest Hoffstetter, Irene Major and an infant twin Maxine Parcel; a brother, Vernon Parcel; and a great-great-grandson.
