Maydine M. Roslyn
Maydine Margaret Roslyn, 96, of Crowley, passed away on the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008.
A private memorial service will be held by the family.
Maydine was born May 7, 1911, in Wever, to E.J. and John Blume. She graduated from Burlington High School, earned a B.A. in home economics from Iowa State University and an M.A. in education from the University of Colorado. She trained as a dietitian in Omaha, Neb., and Chicago, Ill.
She married Charles Fred Roslyn on April 7, 1938. They lived first in Denver, Colo., and then in southeast Iowa. She was an educator and a registered dietitian. Maydine taught grades five through eight at a rural two-room schoolhouse in Sawyer, then home economics at Burlington High School. She was a professor and department chair of home economics at Iowa Wesleyan College from 1959 to 1973.
After retirement, she and Charles moved to Crowley and continued to work part time teaching at Tarrant County Community College in the dietetic technician program and consulting for nursing homes into her 80s.
Mrs. Roslyn always had a ready smile and an encouraging word. She enjoyed helping her many students develop their careers. She was a pioneering role model for working mothers by capably balancing work and family. Maydine was a loving wife and mother. She was an excellent cook who loved to prepare meals and try new recipes for her family. Many of these featured foods from her garden.
She is survived by four daughters, Sandra Burgus and her husband Gilbert of Utopia, Judy Rollstin and her husband Larry of Albuquerque, N.M. Patricia Sanders and her husband Ronald of Austin, and Sharon Jennings and her husband Gary of Crowley; 10 grandchildren, Leslie Small, Lori Walton, Wendy White, Kevin Jennings, Shannon Nipper, Kelly Peterson, Scott Lohmann, Amber Rollstin, David Sanders, Mark Sanders; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Edward Blume.
