Maynard G. Widmer July 5, 1917 - July 21, 2005

      Maynard G. Widmer, 88, of Wayland, died Thursday, July 21, 2005, near Fern Cliff Park while picking blackberries.

      A mem-orial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 28 at Bethel Mennonite Church near Wayland, with the Rev. Herb Yoder officiating. A private family burial will be held prior to the service at the Bethel Cemetery. The body has been cremated. Visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday, July 27 at the church, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Parkview Home, Mennonite Central Committee or Mennonite Mission Network. Beatty Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Kate and her husband Steve Shantz of Goshen, Ind., and Lois A. Widmer of Goshen, Ind.; and a son John Widmer and his fiancée Denise Stauffer, both of Noble; a sister, Gladys C. Widmer of Goshen, Ind.; and three grandchildren.

      In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Dale.
