Melvin was born August 31, 1947 in Washington, Iowa, the son of John and Wilma (Klein) Liska. Melvin was a happy, bubbly and perpetually smiling person. He loved to talk to just about anyone. Melvin loved to help people when he could, and he was very generous to those around him. He loved to cook and would make amazing meals for his friends and family. He enjoyed farming, working with animals, and gardening when he could. He liked learning about the world around him; history in particular, but also astronomy and science.
Melvin was a proud veteran and loved the United States to his core. He served his nation in the United States Air Force during Vietnam, serving in the 535th Tactical Air Support Squadron.
Above all, Melvin loved his family. His memory will be carried on by his cherished wife, Wanda of 42 years; children, Brenda (Brian) Dobbs, Jerry (Melissa) Liska and Mike (Kelsey) Liska; grandchildren, Madilynn Liska, Allison Dobbs, Makenyn Liska, Keaton Dobbs, Brooklynn Liska, Krew Liska and Kysen Liska.
