KALONA ? Menno L. Miller, 82, of Kalona, died Friday, March 18, 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona from a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, March 25, at the Fairview Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Burial will be in the Sharon Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday at the church, where the family will greet friends from noon to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Miller was born Nov. 20, 1933, near Kalona, the son of Lewis L. and Fannie Miller. He married Elizabeth Chupp on Nov. 20, 1958, in Chouteau, Oklahoma.
He accepted Christ as his personal savior in his youth and was a member of the Sharon Bethel Church in Kalona. He was a farmer in the Wellman area. After retiring from farming, he served the Amish community by taking them to their appointments and sightseeing both in Iowa and Arizona. He loved meeting new people in his travels, and seeing whom they knew. He took great joy in church singing events and would not miss one.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth, of Kalona; three sons, Nelson and wife Glenda of Fay, Oklahoma, Lloyd of Moundridge, Kansas, and Larry of Wellman; four daughters, Lovina and Gerry Mauro of Glendale, Arizona, Ruth and husband Manuel of Wellman, LaVertta Hochstetler and husband Randy of Grabill, Indiana, and Lucille of Kalona; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Katie Ann Shetler and husband Dennis of Kalona, and Mattie Yoder and husband Joe of Colon, Michigan; and two brothers, Wilson Miller and wife Lois of Kalona, and Fred Miller and wife Ida Ellen of Nashville, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild; one brother, Junior; and one sister, Cleola Yoder.
